What is it about?
Forum Theatre is an interactive form of theatre developed in 1973 by the Brazilian actor and theatre director Augusto Boal (➔Wikipedia). His aim was to highlight social injustices and to invite the audience not only to analyse them, but also to actively change them through their participation.
By intervening in the conflict or decision-making situations portrayed, participants move beyond the role of passive observers and become active participants in shaping events. Hypotheses about communication, impact and relationship patterns can be tested directly and their consequences experienced first-hand. In short: Forum Theatre is a method that brings resistance to light and opens up new scope for action. The stage becomes a ‘rehearsal for reality’.
That is precisely what this workshop is about: learning about effective interventions from Forum Theatre and how you can apply them in various settings (e.g. when dealing with conflict issues, organisational culture changes or difficult conversations).

Objectives
You will experience the basic principles of Forum Theatre and how to create spaces in which new options of acting can be identified, tested and reflected.
Content
In this workshop we will focus on a varied mix of conceptual insights, interactive exercises based on real-life examples as well as joint reflection on selected interventions. You will learn how to use forum theatre in diverse settings. We’ll work on real-life cases – with minimal effort, maximum impact and plenty of humour. The focus is on how observation and knowledge can lead to new insights and be turned into effective action. You are expressly encouraged to get involved, try things out and learn by doing.
Your Benefit
After the workshop you will know in theory and practice, how iterative processes involving observation, intervention and feedback can stimulate the dynamics of change in counselling, coaching and leadership, and you will gain confidence in applying these techniques.
